The Chief Instructor of Ryurei Aikido is Peter Bussell sensei. Bussell Sensei commenced his study of Aikido in 1965.
Over the years Bussell Sensei has appreciated the opportunity to take instruction from many wonderful, skilled senior teachers of Aikido from the Yoshinkai, the Aikikai and the Ki No Kenkyukai (Ki Society). He enjoys close and friendly relations with several seniors of all of these schools and counts a few among his close Aikido friends.
He was, in the mid 1970’s, awarded the Aikikai Instructor of the Year award in New Zealand, even though he was not a member of the Aikikai. This award was given to him by the late Shinichi Suzuki Sensei, then of the Hawaii Aikikai, while he was on an aikido teaching visit to New Zealand.
Sadly, Bussell Sensei passed away in 2023 following a long battle with multiple health issues, but his spirit lives on in those who studied with him during his 50+ year journey in Aikido.
Noah Potechin Sensei began the study of Aikido under Peter Bussell Sensei in 1999. For the past 20 years he has studied diligently with Bussell Sensei, developing the unique style of Aikido that is offered by Ryurei Aikido. Bussell Sensei awarded Potechin Sensei with the Rank of Godan and the title of Chief Instructor of Ryurei Aikido.
Potechin Sensei teaches Aikido in a practical manner, emphasizing ki and adaptation, rather than rigid technique and form.
Dan began his study of Aikido under Peter Bussell Sensei in 2008, following a two year practice at Aikido de la Montagne in Montreal. Dan brings a rich and patient approach to teaching, blending physical, mental and spiritual elements in his practice. Along with being an avid practitioner of Vipassana meditation, Dan also shares his thoughts on the shared wisdom of the martial path of aikido & other martial arts alongside buddishm & other spiritual paths via his blog at www.trueselfvictory.org.
Dan was awarded the rank of Ikkyu along with the title of Assistant Instructor, Aikido and Shinkido in April 2017.
Dan currently supports Ryurei Aikido in a part time capacity as he explores the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that arise through the application of aikido & shinkido principles to alternate martial and meditative practices. Again, visit www.trueselfvictory.org for more information.
